   Down! This is really important.

   the wheel turns DOWN for a few reasons the 1st being that your work doesn’t go flying around-also you have a place to rest your work-the bottom plate

   Up. That way the debri flys away from you. If its down, the debri will come at you. That’s not safe.

   Facing the wheel, the front goes up the back goes down or away from you

   It spins toward you as you are facing it, so I guess that would be down. Most grinders have some sort of table (or fence) that can go with them and since the wheel spings toward you, the spinning motion of the wheel forces whatever you are grinding down and into the table (aka- downpressure). If the wheel spun the other way or away from you, it would rip things out of your hands and send them flying at high-speed up and over the wheel (not that that doesn’t happen anyway!).

   They turn down otherwise you will get all the sparks coming up

   actually… either ways. it would just depend on what angle you are going to grind depending on your comfort.

   of course you will know it during actual.

   if your grinding a large object of course youre going to place it on top of your grinding wheel, so if its going down, all the sparks should come to you and you dont want that right?

   if your grinding say small pointed objects, you will be placing it under or almost under your grinding wheel for better vision. so if your grinder turns up, the sparks would also come to you and you dont want that also right?

   its better if you place your grinder to an open space in front and back.

   theoretically, electric motors turns counter clockwise but depending on the orientations of your windings.

   From the side it spins clockwise.. where you stand is up to you..

    it is safest if it turns down, toward the tool rest, this will give you, the user more control of your work piece. personal, i’d rather have a piece fly toward the floor rather than at my face, if i were to lose control of that piece.
