Seems to be a good grinder. Better than the blade grinder I was using.

I have never had this experience with Krupps product. But this one, I could not even turn it on. Packed it up and sent it back to Amazon.

Boy, does this thing look good on the Amazon web page. As soon as the sleek black & silver model GVX2-12 was posted, I pre-ordered for one, even though delivery wasn’t for slated another month. Well, the month is up, the unit arrived, and 2 days later it’s on its way back for a refund. That decision occurred pretty much immediately upon pulling it out of its box: it’s near-behemoth in scale. We’re talking almost big as a breadbox, folks. It soon became painfully evident in hindsight that the website pictures don’t indicate its size relative to anything else, nor its physical dimensions. Local stores don’t stock it yet, so I had no idea of its gargantuosity.

If Krups made it about 1/2 to 1/3 smaller than it is, I’d be in burr-grind heaven, which is where I hoped to be with this. I didn’t measure its dimensions before returning it (assuming the specs would be listed on Krups’ or Amazon’s website–they’re not), but can report that with its cardboard packaging & shipping box it weighs just under 5 pounds. It’s way huger than La Pavoni’s sensibly sized burr grinder. If you’re considering the Krups burr grinder, seek one out in real life (i.e., a store) to behold its behemothness for yourself before committing to the expensive return shipment to Amazon.

A quick test-spin under power confirmed the machine’s industrial intentions: no one in their rightfully sleepy mind would want to endure that industrial-grade whir every morning in order to brew a cup of that elixir meant to ease the transition from one’s utopian sleepworld into the cold harsh light of reality. As an indicator of its mass-production intentions, the unit’s cup-quantity selector knob only goes down to a minimum setting of 2: has Krups heard of the concept of brewing 1 quality cup at a time?

Amazon forces you to choose a star rating to post a review, so the 3 stars are intended as a neutral rating: my unit had to remain virginally bean-free in order to secure a refund. If you’re brewing mass quantities of quality joe, then this baby may well be the unit for you. With Krup’s quality reputation, I’m sure it’s capable of effortlessly and unfailingly spewing forth mass mounds of smooth, high-decibel grounds on command. But if you’re a single-cup-at-a-time imbiber, best look elsewhere, `cause overkill is putting mildly what this unit is. As someone whose ears cannot tolerate the harsh thwack of a blade grinder, it’s back to the trusty Zassenhaus hand grinder for me.

No matter what I do this grider will not turn on. I followed the trouble shooting guide plus a few other tricks I know (I’m an electrical engineer). Still it just sat there doing nothing.

    Don’t waste your money.
