   Nutmeg is a hard seed from a fruit off a tree. You don’t really need a grinder. A nice microplaner does a great job and they are cheap.

   Botanically speaking, Nutmeg is a seed, not a nut, but so are Almonds. As far as grinding nutmeg goes, a grinder is a waste of money, it only does one task and takes up space when you are not using it. As another answerer suggested, a Microplane rasp is a far better option, they Multi-task (as Alton Brown would say). If you want to buy one, go to a woodworking store like Woodcraft http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=2009, instead of a kitchen store http://www.chefsresource.com/tools-microplane-graters.html, They are EXACTLY the same tools, but packaged differently, so you pay more for the same tool at a kitchen store than woodworking.
